Two Posts in One Day - Boom-yah!

I figured that I'd take advantage of the excessive internet access I have at Troë's school and post twice today. (That, and now it's after school and Troë has a singing rehearsal for her play, and I'm bored.) And to make things more interesting for those of you who read this regularly and are bored of hearing about Troë classes and my work - I'll talk about something different.

Movies in Britain. The movies here are different - in several ways.

Firstly, not all of the movies from North America are released in the theatres over here, and they also have theatre-released movies here that never air in Canada. A case-in-point is this new movie "STORMBREAKER" (in all caps, for no reason). It stars Ewan McGreggor, Alica Silverstone, Mickey Rourke and a bunch of other people. I'd never heard of it before coming here, but it was everywhere here when we first arrived: on buses, billboards, Burger King kids meals, and anywhere else we cared to look. It looks kind of "Spy Kids"-ish and John said it's based on a series of kids books that are popular in England. That probably explains why the movie is hyped so much over here.

Secondly, when movies are relased over here as well as in North America, they're released at different times. Usually later times. Yesterday I saw a sign advertising a sneak preview for "The Devil Wears Prada" next weekend. And today a break time some of the teachers were talking about the new Adam Sandler movie coming out next month: "Click". I encountered this phenomenon went I went to Australia, but though that it was isolated to that area of the world. (To me, it makes sense that summer blockbusters should come out during the summer months, regardless of when that is. So in Australia, I didn't find it odd when action-adventure movies were primarily released in the hot months of December and January, during the students two month summer vacation.) England is the Northern hemisphere, just as in Canada, though. Also, England is pretty populous (twice that of Canada) where-as Australia is smaller then Canada.

Finally, when the movies are released over here, often they're called something entirely different. Last week we rented a few of these movies. In Canada, Jean Reno stars as an assassin in Natalie Portman's first movie called "the Professional". Here that movie is called "Leon". In Canada, Ashley Judd, Greg Kinnear and Hugh Jackman all star in a romantic comedy about being jilted called "Someone Like You". Here that movie is called "Animal Attraction".

To complicate things the movie posters and rental jackets usually have different pictures on them.

So when we go the library to rent a movie (which we do) then you often come across movies you;ve never heard of, with covers you've never seen, staring actors you know. So you pick it up to rent, only to realize that you've already seen it.

Hey adam - 2 blogs in one day, when did we get so lucky. The movie problem sounds interesting. Wait until you get a little older, then you can watch movies you have seen before and not really remember you have seen them - yes, there are some perks to getting older!
I think it is great you are volunteering at Rossmore. The kids are lucky to have you and Troe.
Dax is at the vets as I write this. I hope she is okay. I had to put her in the carry case before I left for work cause I didn't think dad could manage it very easily. Poor little thing, - 2 hrs. in the cage. she wasn't very happy. She is worrying me though because she really smells bad - it actually makes you gag. Must be some roaring infection. Poor little thing. Will let you know what happens.
the other cats seemed to know something was wrong. Link didn't bother Dax at all, just gave her a huge circle when he came near her, and Em seemed to be very vocal to let us know that something was wrong. Very intuitive, cats are.
Anyway, love to you both. The weekend is coming - YAH.
Don't forget to send Pete's #.

Without being pedantic, Stormbreaker (which looks like a quality pants film,) is based on the Alex Ryder books by Anthony Horowitz. (Jame's bond for kids.)

I realised we had slightly squiffy release dates over here, but I didn't realise quite how much later we get films. Odd.

Added note about Dax - she had to have a little surgery. She got a bad cat scratch (about 3 in. long) on her hind quarter. I guess what happens with cats is that they get scratched, and heal very quickly, trapping any infection inside, and when the pus builds up, it bursts the scratch open, which is what happened to dax. they are cleaning out the wound, and putting her antibiotics, then stitching her up. we will get her back this afternoon. ($200.00 + later). Hope she'll be back to normal soon, as she is just not herself - sits very still for hours and hours without moving (like 22 hours the one day). Anyway, looks like all will be well.
Love MMYT

To further illustrate the vast release time differential:

Last night on television I saw a preview for "Hoodwinked" (that jazzed-up retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood" using new computer animation) which just being released in British theatres this weekend.

Troë and I RENTED this movie in Canada in the spring.

Hi guys,
Don't know where Dax got the scratch or injury from. I have seen Link swat at her but am not sure if he has his claws out or not. You should see her behind - it looks awful!!!! Just above and beside her tail. they had to cut away a huge amount of nectrotic (dead) skin which made a huge hole, then they gathered it up and stitched it together. they left a drain sticking out both sides to drain the rest of the pus out. It just looks gross. she looks like a string gathered purse. she has been in our bedroom with the door shut to keep the other cats away from her for a few days. she seems happy to be on her own and quiet. I put a litter box in the bathroom for her and brought her up some water and food dishes. she swishes her tail a lot because she doesn't like the feel of the drain hanging out. the drain comes out on Mon. or tues, and the stitches in about another 8 or 9 days. the fun part is getting her to take antibiotics. they gave us instructions how to give a cat a pill, which of course didnt work and made her a little upset, plus I had to hold her tight and it hurt her little behind, so I decided to buy her some of the soft cat food packets and I squish a pill between 2 kibble bits. when she is good and hungry I put it in her dish and she gobbles it right up. seems fairly easy compared to trying to force her to swallow a pill. anyway, she has to be on antibiotics for 10 days (twice a day). she is more like her old self today and really likes it when I spend time with her and pet her. the other cats are looking for her and seem quite concerned she is not wandering around at the moment, but we have to keep her quiet and inside until the drain comes out and they said it was best until the stitches come out too. Poor little thing. i am going to try and get a picture to send you - you won't believe how awful it looks (and today it looks way better than yesterday.
Hope your weekend is awsome. I am going to a wine tasting tomorrow and lunch at the Grey Monk winery with some of the girls from Ark's job. should be fun. Dad has a class and a gig.
Love you both.
