Hello Ian - It's Batman

So people here have no Halloween spirit.

I wasn't allowed to dress up in costume for work today, and had to still wear a dress shirt and tie. My boss is pretty cool, and fairly lax, so I pushed the line a little. I showed up wearing my Batman shoes, Batman belt, and my Batman T-shirt underneath a white dress shirt so the logo could still be made out.

My boss giggled a little when she first saw me but didn't complain. That was the best response I got. Several people told me they could see my t-shirt but in a disapoving manner - as if I couldn't dress myself properly. One person told me they liked the Superman logo. And one lady asked me if I was "planning on flying home soon" because of the picture.

I am the only one I have seen even remotely dress-up so far, and it's already late afternoon. (A side point: what kind of company schedules an hour long lunch break for 3pm during an employee's 9 to 5 shift?)

I think you'll find that Hallowe'en is a North American tradition and celebration, so naturally we don't "do" it. Is it not a bit like assuming you would have bonfire night in Canada? Although, it is becoming more americanised over here with trick or treaters / dressing up and the like.

Remember remember the fifth of November, gunpowder treason and plot! Woo for burning Guy Fawkes!

The no Halloween thing totally sucks, I know it's one of your guys favorite holidays. Well, only a few people I saw were dressed up at the hospital. Most just in a wig or something with their lab coats or scrubs. Oh well. Hopefully we can plan something extra big and special next year when you guys are back. Happy Halloween!!!

Oops, I should just sign up for blogger so I don'd keep forgetting to sign my name at the bottom. The last post was from Kim!

two things: one... no, school didn't do Hallowe'en either. The kids weren't even given a 'non-dress code day'.
second... Kim, you don't have to sign as annonymous, nor do you have to sign up for a blogger account for it to show your name. Just select 'other' and a bar will appear for you to type your name.

i did actually see one person later yesterday who could have been dressed up.

she was wearing very little clothes (and what she had was only rags and spandex underwear) and she was growling and clawing at hto guys she saw on the high street.

if she was dressed up - i can only guess was going as a "slutty crazy" or something.

she might have just been high too, though.

Just wait for November 5th, Adam. You;ll get all the fireworks you're looking fo. unless that also has changed

Seems like you two are having a wonderful exoerience. I've been to Stonehenge, Hadrians Wall and Ann Hathaway;s cottage and most of the other places you mention

Maybe you;ll get down to Guildford or Godalming, my home town, before you come home. Have fun, and keep the "blogs" a-comin'

Love from Grandma and Grandpa.

This weekend I am going to the Hills with the girls (you know, that spa at 108 Mile House. Anyway, if I get home early enough on sunday i will call, but I kind of doubt I will be home early enough as you are now 9 hours ahead. Will call next weekend for sure. i really miss talking to you.
Hope all is going well and you are staying healthy and happy.
